Being a leader today is not only a huge responsibility, but also a very difficult feat.
Did you know that only 5-10% of leaders are seen as fulfilling the “promise of leadership”… accomplishing both the expressed (known) expectations for their roles as well as the unspoken expectations that stakeholders have of them (like fair treatment, listening, engagement, inspiration, direction, etc.)?
While we may have a very personal desire to make a difference and be impactful as leaders in our organizations, more and more we are knowledgeable of what it actually takes for leaders to truly feel and be effective. With nearly 7 out of 10 American employees disengaged on the job, now more than ever we must be ever present of our internal and external drivers, strengths, weaknesses, beliefs, and assumptions, and how they affect us and those we lead. We must lead ourselves before we can effectively and positively lead others.
